A Day of Learning, Fun and Community

Under an unseasonably warm spring sun, Gladstone Marina Parklands came alive on Sunday 12th October for the annual CapRescue Open Day. Entry was free thanks to presenting partner Australia Pacific LNG downstream operator ConocoPhillips, making it easy for families to enjoy a morning of learning and fun.

Visitors stepped inside the CapRescue helicopter, met the crew, and saw firsthand how the service operates across the region. Local emergency and support organisations — including Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Gladstone SES, Queensland Police, Marine Rescue Gladstone, Gladstone Regional Council, and BlueSky partner Powerlink Queensland — also showcased the vital roles they play in keeping people safe and connected.

QAS led CPR awareness and snake bite first aid demonstrations, sharing practical skills that could make a real difference in an emergency. Meanwhile, Happy Faces and Glitter Tattoos by Maria, bubbles, and Wayneo’s Aussie Ice Creams kept the kids smiling throughout the morning.

Despite the heat, it was a fantastic family-friendly day celebrating the people and services that protect our region.

“Being a BlueSky Partner of CapRescue, we loved joining the community at the Open Day,” said a Powerlink Queensland spokesperson. “It was a great opportunity to connect with locals and share how our projects across Central Queensland help keep Queenslanders connected to a world-class energy future.”

The day also marked the first outing for one of CapRescue’s newest pilots, Gavin Lewis, who spent the morning meeting locals and hearing what the helicopter service means to them.

A big thank you to ConocoPhillips, and supporting partners Gladstone Regional Council and Blackwoods, for helping make the day possible — and keeping this annual event free for everyone to enjoy.
