When an emergency strikes in Blackwater or the surrounding region, every second counts — and having access to fast, advanced medical care can mean the difference between life and death. For residents and workers in this tight-knit mining community, that critical lifeline often comes from the skies, in the form of Rescue300.
So far this year, CapRescue has responded to 23 missions in the Blackwater area alone — including 22 inter-hospital transfers and one primary response. That’s more than three missions a month in a town of fewer than 5,000 people, many of whom are part of a fly-in, fly-out or drive-in, drive-out workforce. The cost of delivering those missions exceeds $700,000 — all provided at no cost to the patient.
Support from partners like Yancoal’s Yarrabee mine helps make that possible.
As a long-standing Lift Off Partner, Yarrabee’s ongoing contributions play a direct role in saving lives across Central Queensland — and particularly in Blackwater, where their workforce and families live, work and travel every day. Their support helps cover the significant costs associated with running a 24/7 aeromedical service, including training, equipment, fuel and maintenance.
“Yarrabee’s backing isn’t just generous — it’s local, and it’s lifesaving,” said a CapRescue spokesperson. “Their support ensures we can continue to respond quickly and professionally when someone in the Blackwater community needs urgent care.”
Yarrabee’s commitment to community health and wellbeing can be seen beyond the hospital landing pad, too. The mine recently supported the Blackwater Bandits Rugby League Club with funding for new portable junior goals — helping keep local kids active and engaged through sport.
From junior footy fields to emergency landings, Yarrabee’s investment in the region continues to make a difference.
CapRescue sincerely thanks Yancoal Yarrabee for their continued commitment — and for standing with Blackwater when it matters most.
