In the heart of Central Queensland, CapRescue continues to be a beacon of hope and help, providing vital aeromedical and search and rescue services to the community. The team’s latest additions, Sam McLean and Cameron Stewart, bring unique experiences and enthusiasm to their roles, strengthening the already robust lineup of skilled professionals.
Sam McLean, a lifelong resident of Central Queensland, joins CapRescue with a nine-year background as a Queensland Police Officer. His experience on the front line has fueled his passion for rescue work, especially after witnessing numerous missions involving Rescue300.
“Seeing the Rescue Crew Officer being lowered down by the wire sparked my interest in wanting to be on that side of the rescue,” Sam shares. For him, the role is both challenging and rewarding, offering the opportunity to give back to the community while honing his skills in a small, dedicated team.
Joining Sam is Cameron Stewart, who has been inspired by rescue work since he was 16. His journey began with volunteering as a Surf Lifesaver on North Stradbroke Island, eventually leading him to a career as a professional Lifeguard and Rescue Crew Officer in the oil and gas industry.
Cameron’s work has taken him across Australia, most recently to the Torres Strait, serving remote communities. Now, he’s eager to be closer to his family and contribute to the community in Central Queensland. “CapRescue is such an awesome opportunity for me, not only is it progressing my career, but it is allowing me to live closer to my family in an amazing region that suits my lifestyle,” he explains.
The success of CapRescue in Central Queensland is bolstered by its High-Altitude partners like Glencore. As a major supporter of the region’s health and well-being, Glencore has played a pivotal role in funding the training of the CapRescue crew.
Operations Manager Kirsty Wooler expresses her gratitude for Glencore’s unwavering support: “Thanks to Glencore’s support, our crew can maintain the highest standards of safety and professionalism and provide the best possible care and assistance to the people of Central Queensland.”
Base Manager Jake Moore echoes this sentiment, praising the new recruits: “Sam and Cameron have shown great determination, resilience, and skill throughout their training. We are confident that they will excel in their roles as crew members, thanks in part to the comprehensive training program supported by Glencore.”
For Glencore, the partnership with CapRescue is a testament to their dedication to the safety and well-being of Central Queensland. By funding essential training programs, they ensure that the CapRescue team is always ready to respond to emergencies, bridging the gap between remote areas and advanced healthcare.
As CapRescue welcomes Sam and Cameron, the team is more prepared than ever to meet the challenges of the region, ensuring CapRescue continues to make a difference.
