The Sound of Help Relies on Community Support

For many across Central Queensland, the sound of a helicopter overhead carries a clear meaning — help is on its way.

For 30 years, that vital response across a vast and often remote region has been delivered by CapRescue. The service provides lifesaving aeromedical support for emergencies, accidents and search and rescue missions, connecting people to urgent treatment when they might otherwise face significant delays.

When Rescue300 takes off, it means someone is receiving the care they need, as quickly as possible. From remote properties and highways to coastal communities, each mission begins with a call for help — and a coordinated response to get medical and rescue teams on scene and patients to hospital.

Behind every flight is a person, a family, and a moment where timely care can make a real difference.

As CapRescue marks 30 years of service, the annual appeal will share stories from patients who have experienced that moment firsthand — including Fiona and Bevan Baker, and Summer Hamilton and her father Stan — each reflecting a time when help arrived from above.

While the service operates in partnership with Queensland Health, community funding plays a key role in keeping Rescue300 mission-ready. Around 30 per cent of the funding comes from local individuals and organisations, with the annual appeal encouraging those in a position to give, particularly in the lead-up to the end of financial year.

“This service relies on the generosity of the Central Queensland community to keep Rescue300 ready to respond,” CapRescue Operations Manager Kirsty Wooler said. “Donations help ensure the sound overhead continues to bring hope for years to come. Donate today and help send help on its way.”
