On Sunday, 22 February 2026, Kaitlyn’s life changed in a matter of hours.
What began as a sudden medical emergency in Yeppoon quickly became critical as her condition deteriorated. A Red Blanket response was activated and CapRescue was tasked by Queensland Health, bringing specialist emergency care directly to her side.
“When I heard the helicopter overhead, it was reassurance that help was coming,” Kaitlyn said.
“The team were calm, focused and reassuring during one of the most frightening moments of my life.”
As Rescue300 made the flight to hospital, Kaitlyn required a blood transfusion mid-flight — treatment delivered by the crew in the air.
“The helicopter wasn’t just transport — it was a flying intensive care unit. Without that, I would not be here.”
The sudden emergency left her family and friends shaken.
“Everything changed within hours. They were terrified, confronted with how quickly life can shift,” she said.
“It’s given us perspective and a level of gratitude that is hard to put into words.”
While recovery took time, Kaitlyn said the experience changed the way she views life, family and the role CapRescue plays in the region.
“Being home with my family means everything.”
Wanting to give back, Kaitlyn recently organised a community fundraiser in support of CapRescue, sharing her story publicly for the first time.
Through her photography business, The Storm and Me, Kaitlyn organised the “Red Blanket Minis” fundraiser, bringing together local photographers, businesses, friends and families to give back to the service that helped save her life.
“Our fundraiser raised more than $2,700 for CapRescue,” Kaitlyn said.
“They saved my life, and I wanted to give back.”
Kaitlyn said the response from the community was overwhelming.
“Thank you to Kyla Eliza Photo & Film, Tamara Porter Photography and Chapters by Jordie, along with Sugar & Spice Event Co. for helping make the fundraiser possible,” she said.
“Love you all for the support. This community is incredible.”
For 30 years, CapRescue crews have been that promise in the sky — ready to respond at a moment’s notice, 24/7, at no cost to patients across Central Queensland.
For Kaitlyn and her family, it is now a service they support wholeheartedly, knowing firsthand what it means when help is on its way.
