Community Given Close Up at CapRescue Open Day

On a sunny Sunday morning in June, the Rescue300 helicopter touched down at CQUniversity Rockhampton for the RACQ CapRescue Community Open Day. Also in attendance were crews from other local emergency service agencies, including Queensland Fire & Emergency Services, Rural Fire Service, SES Rockhampton, Queensland Police Service, RACQ and Crime Stoppers.

Families from all around CQ came out to enjoy the fun and educational day, eager to meet their local heroes and learn more about the important work our emergency service crews do within the community.

“It was fantastic to see so many families come along and learn about the important role that not only RACQ CapRescue plays within our community, but also the roles played by the many other local emergency services that we work alongside,” Community Fundraising Officer for RACQ CapRescue, Caitlin Buttenshaw stated. “The smiles were a mile wide, especially for the adventurous kids who had the opportunity to snap a photo in the front seat of the helicopter, under the watchful eyes of the CapRescue crew of course.”

Whilst at the event, attendees were given the opportunity to find out about the services offered at the CQUniversity Health Clinic with students and staff from the physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, podiatry, and paramedic fields providing fun, interactive activities and demonstrations for everyone to enjoy.

“As a proud and engaged supporter of our communities, CQUniversity recognises the lifechanging work that RACQ CapRescue does for our local community here in the Central Queensland region,” CQUniversity Associate Vice-President (Rockhampton Region) Ms Kim Harrington says. “We were proud and honored to work with CapRescue and host this fantastic event on the CQUniversity Rockhampton North campus.”

After a fun morning and with an icrecream or two under their belts, the community waved goodbye to the Rescue300 helicopter and crew for another year as it took off and headed back to base.

“Community events such as this would not be possible without the fantastic support of our event sponsors, volunteers and the community, “ Caitlin said. “RACQ CapRescue would like to thank our presenting partner CQUniversity, our helicopter and crew sponsors Blackwoods and Stanwell, our children’s entertainment sponsor Jemena, CQ Today, our StepUp CapRescue volunteers and students from the Rockhampton Grammar School for stepping up and supporting this wonderful event!”
