As we reflect on another impactful year at CapRescue, one thing is clear: the unwavering support of the Central Queensland community remains the foundation of our success. From rural properties to towns and cities, the dedication of local individuals, businesses, and volunteers fuels our mission to provide life-saving helicopter rescue services across the region.
This year was marked by vibrant events, inspiring stories of resilience, and significant fundraising milestones. We also launched exciting new initiatives that further strengthened our connection with the community.”
July began in style with the biennial CapRescue Ball, presented by QMAG. Held at Browne Park, guests were greeted by the AW139 helicopter, offering a unique opportunity for twilight photos and conversations with the crew, before enjoying a night that celebrated CapRescue’s lifesaving work.
A heartfelt moment unfolded when past patient Kev Mauger shared his story of survival and performed a song in tribute to the crew he lovingly calls his ‘Sky Angels’
Attendees raved about the evening and were already planning their table for 2025. Most importantly over $50,000 was raised, thanks to the generosity of sponsors and guests.
The stories of our patients are the lifeblood of our organisation, inspiring others to give, volunteer, and champion CapRescue’s mission.
Another story of survival close to home, encouraged the Hewitt family in Theodore to give back in their own way. Hewitt Consulting & Communications launched special edition CapRescue caps, with proceeds directly supporting our rescue missions. This initiative is a touching reminder of how personal experiences can spark community-wide support.
One of the year’s standout achievements was the launch of CapRescue WorkReady, a social enterprise operating as a profit-for-purpose business. All surplus revenue generated by WorkReady is reinvested into our Rescue Helicopter Service.
WorkReady offers essential occupational health and hygiene services, including RESP-FIT accredited respirator fit-testing, hearing protection fit-testing, alcohol and other drug screening services, and custom hearing protection fittings. Looking ahead, we plan to introduce earwax removal through microsuction to expand our services further. Based in Gladstone, WorkReady addresses a critical need in the region’s industrial sector by providing mobile, onsite testing—enhancing workplace safety while directly supporting CapRescue’s mission.
This year’s Colour Me Capricorn in Rockhampton was another well supported event with over 500 participants and more than $16,000 raised for CapRescue. The colourful, high-energy atmosphere created a joyful community spirit, solidifying Colour Me Capricorn as a beloved annual tradition and a perfect example of how fundraising can be both fun and impactful.
In May, National Volunteer Week 2024 celebrated the incredible individuals who donate their time and skills to CapRescue. The theme, “Something for Everyone,” resonated with our volunteers, who contributed over 1,050 hours through the StepUp CapRescue program, supported by Thiess, from July 2023 to June 2024. Their dedication helps us maintain vital rescue operations and continues to inspire others to get involved.
Our annual Golf Day was another remarkable success, raising an impressive $27,000. This event was made possible by the support of local sponsors and enthusiastic participants who return each year for a fun day of community support and networking.
Incredibly the region continues to rally together, and we are proud to announce that our Annual Appeal exceeded expectations once again, raising over $150,000. This critical funding helps cover our operational costs, ensuring that CapRescue remains a trusted and ready resource for Central Queensland in times of emergency.
Additionally, this year marked a decade of the Rescue300 Club, where loyal donors have continued to support our mission year after year. These dedicated supporters are the backbone of CapRescue, and we were thrilled to host an event in November 2023 to express our gratitude for their commitment.
As we look ahead, we are filled with gratitude and optimism. The continued support of the Central Queensland community empowers us to tackle new challenges and extend our services to those who need them most. Every dollar raised, every volunteer hour contributed, and every shared story plays a vital role in saving lives.
