Community spirit was on full display throughout June, with hundreds of people attending CapRescue events and helping raise funds for the organisation.
The annual Golf Day and Open Day attracted strong backing from across Central Queensland and marked the beginning of a busy fundraising calendar that continues with the 30th Anniversary Ball in July, the Gladstone Open Day and Golf Day in August, and the Degustation Dinner in September.
More than 100 golfers took part in the CapRescue Golf Day presented by Hutchinson Builders, with every hole on the course proudly sponsored by local businesses.
Community Engagement Officer Sharyn Truelson said the event highlighted the generosity of local businesses and the wider community.
“More than 100 golfers joined us on the day, and together we raised more than $28,000 for CapRescue,” Ms Truelson said.
“We are incredibly grateful to our Naming Rights Sponsor, Hutchinson Builders, Gold Sponsors Absolute Waste, CJ Homes Central Queensland and Whitehaven Coal, Silver Sponsors 1 Maintenance & Supply and Brown and Hurley, our hole sponsors, volunteers and every golfer who took part.”
Just over two weeks later, more than 650 people attended the CapRescue Open Day presented by Stanwell and CQUniversity, up from approximately 500 attendees last year.
Visitors had the opportunity to get up close to Rescue300, step inside the helicopter, meet the crew, explore emergency services displays and enjoy interactive activities.
Ms Truelson said it was encouraging to see attendance continue to grow.
“It was great to see so many smiling faces enjoying the activities on offer and making the most of a beautiful winter’s day in Central Queensland,” she said.
Acting CEO Kirsty Wooler said the success of both events reflected the strong connection between CapRescue and the communities it serves.
“June was a wonderful reminder of how much this region values its local rescue helicopter service,” Ms Wooler said.
“Whether people attended an event, volunteered their time, sponsored an activity or made a donation, every contribution helps ensure help is on its way when it matters most.”
Ms Wooler said the upcoming events calendar would provide further opportunities for people to get involved.
“The enthusiasm shown throughout June has been fantastic and we’re looking forward to building on that momentum over the coming months,” she said.
