RACQ CapRescue Volunteers and Thiess StepUp!

RACQ CapRescue is celebrating National Volunteer Week after a huge year of volunteering in 2022.

The StepUp CapRescue Volunteer program, supported by Thiess set a record during the last weekend in May
2022 by clocking up more than 150 volunteer hours across two major events in Central Queensland.

Caitlin Buttenshaw, Community Fundraising Officer for RACQ CapRescue said, “In 2022, our StepUp
CapRescue volunteers gave their time and energy to make a difference by collectively donating over 1,150
hours of their time. According to the current Volunteering Queensland wage rate, that equates to over
$53,000 in value for CapRescue.”

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and will be held from
the 15th – the 21 st of May 2023. The theme for National Volunteer Week 2023 is The Change Makers.

RACQ CapRescue will participate in the week-long event to recognise the vital support that their volunteers
provide and to encourage more people to consider volunteering.

“Our volunteers continue to give their time and energy to make a difference for CapRescue and the
community. We cannot thank them enough for their contributions, and the passion they bring to each
volunteering role,” said Caitlin Buttenshaw.

NVW also provides RACQ CapRescue an opportunity to thank the naming rights partner of their StepUp
CapRescue Volunteers program, Thiess. Thiess has been a proud sponsor of the program since 2017 and
continues to support the CapRescue volunteers every step of the way.

“We recognise the crucial role that volunteers play in keeping RACQ CapRescue operational and delivering
lifesaving services to the community” Thiess General Manager Mining Chris Bourke said.

“We’re proud to sponsor the StepUp Volunteer program and recognise the incredible work of their volunteers
who dedicate their time, energy and passion to make a real difference.”

Volunteers for RACQ CapRescue play an important role in ensuring that the service continues to operate 24
hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year at no direct cost to the patient. The generosity of the
StepUp volunteers is as vital to CapRescue as their service is to the community. They can’t fly without them.
